Just because something is and has been done a certain way for a period of time does not mean that it is correct or safe.
Why do some in the construction industry make up and stick with a lesser standard?
They then tell everyone around them that this lesser standard is a great rule of thumb until most players jump on the bandwagon. It then becomes an industry standard.
However it still does not comply and still presents a safety risk.
A recent example of industry standard we are concerned about is not having a balustrade at the pool coping edge where it is over a metre above ground level.
An unwritten industry standard suggests that if the pool coping is less than 300mm wide then a balustrade is not required.
This does not only not comply with the Building Code of Australia it presents a major safety risk to occupants and pool users.
