Passing of our beloved Director, Wayne Bertram
It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected and tragic passing of Wayne Bertram, Director of Certifiers 2U Pty Ltd, on 15 February 2026.
Wayne dedicated his professional life to the building and certification industry in Australia. Over more than three decades of leadership, he became widely respected for his depth of technical knowledge, integrity in decision-making, and unwavering commitment to helping others.
For those of us who had the privilege of working alongside him, for Nat Andrews, his fellow Director, for more than 24 years. Wayne was far more than a director. Within our team, he was known as “the oracle”, a reflection of the extraordinary breadth and depth of his knowledge. There were few questions he could not answer and few problems he could not dissect with clarity and calm precision.
Above all, Wayne was defined by his generosity. He was generous with his time, his patience, and his knowledge. He mentored countless professionals across the industry and quietly shaped the careers of many who will carry his influence forward.
Wayne touched the hearts of many people across the profession and the broader community. He will be deeply missed.
Wayne and Nat built Certifiers 2U from scratch and made the company the success it is today. They built it on genuine, honest advice, and a commitment to helping as many people as they could.

From 1 July 2024, we are no longer taking on building certification work. We are also finalising all our existing building certification work.
We will continue to assist clients to provide our extensive consultancy services including the preparation and lodgement of Development Applications (DAs), Complying Development Certificate (CDCs), Construction Certificates (CCs), Occupation Certificates (OCs), Building Information Certificates (BIC) and other Council applications such as Section 68 applications and Section 138 Roads Act applications.
We are the only development assistance consultants in the region offering this complete service.
This consultancy work will go hand in hand with our other services seen on our Services page. We will work on your behalf with your Certifier to assist with applications currently under assessment.
We are now located in central Mullumbimby, only 150m from Byron Shire Council.

Founded in 2017 by Nat Andrews, one of our Directors, the company continues to grow to meet the needs of our clients. We have assisting clients throughout Australia and New Zealand.
Our highly qualified team has extensive experience in all types of planning, subdivision and construction projects. Our Director has more than 28 years planning, consultancy and certification experience, with a Master’s degree and National Building Surveying Level One (highest) status.
Certifiers2U has grown from being a progressive building certification company to a full service planning and building code consultancy firm. We deliver on all aspects of development assistance, process management, building code, subdivision and specialise in assisting clients through the rigours of the planning system in NSW.
The NSW Planning Portal became mandatory across NSW on 1 July 2021. We have been working with the Planning Portal since 1 January 2021 so we know the ins and outs of the system.
Based in Byron Shire we have the capability to service our clients on a regional and state wide basis. Our wealth of experience allows us to facilitate projects from concept to completion.
In 2021 and 2022 we became a Regional Finalist for the Northern Rivers Region of the NSW Business Awards in the Micro Business Excellence category. We thank our clients past and present and all our supporters! We continue to work hard for our clients.

In April 2022 our business continued to grow. We now provide complete advice not only planning advice about just trying to get a DA, wholistic advice including whether some building work does not need approval, some may be possible as complying development and others that may require a DA.
Since December 2022 Certifiers 2U has been established for more than five (5) years which is an impressive milestone in this ecomonic climate.
In 2023, to established ourselves as the go-to business for problem solving planning matters and conducting detailed building code and fire safety audits of large commercial developments. We pride ourselves on providing detailed, easy to understand advice.
In 2024 and 2025 we continued to work hard for our clients, particularly those in emerging fields of imported prefabricated construction and fire safety. Our Director Nat Andrews was invited to New Zealand as a keynote speaker on building compliance in both 2024 and 2025. Nay also spoke at Fire Australia in 2025.
After celebrating 8 years in business, tragedy struck in February 2026 with the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved director Wayne Bertram. Our close, highly professional and respected team stuck together, grieved our profound loss, and continued to work hard for our clients and to uphold Wayne’s amazing legacy.
Nat has been invited to speak at Fire Australia 2026 in Melbourne and an international conference later in the year.
Our pre-complying development certificate (Pre-CDC) service has been very popular and continues to be so due to the long wait times for DAs.
Plus, we provide advice on how to design your development that looks beyond the planning approval so that it can meet building legislation, the National Construction Code (NCC) / Building Code of Australia (BCA) and help you secure that coveted occupation certificate or subdivision certificate.
